You never need to set charging preferences for a Spektrum Smart battery, unless you want to. When a Spektrum Smart LiPo battery is connected to a Spektrum Smart charger, unique parameters and the status of that Smart LiPo battery are uploaded from the Smart memory chip integrated into the battery. You can view and set preferences, such as charging speeds, via the charger, so that you can charge the battery every time by simply pressing the "Start" button on the charger. The Smart technology does the rest.

Every Smart LiPo battery is factory assembled with the next-generation IC3™ or IC5™ output connector, which is conveniently compatible with older devices equipped with robust EC3™ and EC5™ connectors. You can use Smart batteries with older systems, but only when they are connected to a Spektrum Smart device do the full benefits of the Smart technology come into their own. Spektrum Smart LiPo batteries also maintain an error log, including the number of incidents involving overheating, over-discharging, and overcharging. This data can be useful for verifying whether the chosen battery is suitable for the application. A Smart Battery automatically uploads its charging parameters to a Spektrum Smart Charger, making charging as simple as pressing the "Start" button. The charging speed of every Smart Battery is adjustable, allowing you to take full advantage of batteries with a faster charging speed.
